SEXUAL HEALTH & IDENTITY

YOUR BODY YOUR PLEASURE

SAFE SEX

PREVENTION

PREVENTION

Practicing safer sex isn’t just about protection…..it’s about open conversations, mutual care and making choices that align with your needs.

  • Using external/internal condoms
  • Discussing sexual history and recent STI testing
  • Taking PrEP
  • Knowing emergency contraception options

Talking about STIs with a partner shouldn’t be awkward. Testing is self-care and there are plenty of resources available to get tested discreetly and affordably.

PREVENTION

Regular STI testing, pelvic exams and sexual health screenings aren’t just for people with certain types of sex lives.

  • Routine testing every 3-6 months, if you are sexually active
  • Routine Pap Smears
  • Find LGBTQ+ and non judgmental healthcare providers
  • Learn about HPV vaccines and if they are right for you

Finding sex-positive, queer-friendly, healthcare providers can make a huge difference.

LUBRICATION & COMFORT

LUBRICATION & COMFORT

LUBRICATION & COMFORT

Sex should never be painful unless that’s your kink. If you experience ongoing pain during sex, it’s worth looking into solutions, whether it’s more foreplay, better lubrication, or checking in with a doctor.

  • Use a good lube
  • Foreplay matters
  • Experiment with different positions & angles
  • Pay attention to pelvic floor health

There is no shame in doing what you have to do to make sure you have healthy, comfortable pleasure.

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

LUBRICATION & COMFORT

LUBRICATION & COMFORT

Reproductive health isn’t just about pregnancy prevention it’s about body autonomy. Whether you’re looking for birth control, abortion access, or fertility care, you deserve medically accurate, judgment-free information.

  • Explore birth control options that fit your body and lifestyle
  • Understand how hormones and gender-affirming care affect reproductive health
  • Learn about fertility options

Your health needs matter, whether you’re seeking gender-affirming care, navigating pregnancy as a queer person, or making decisions about your body.

IT'S OK TO BE A HOE, JUST MAKE SURE YOU ARE A SAFE ONE!

GET TESTED REGULARLY!

No matter how "careful" you may think you're being STI's are a possibility for anyone participating in sexual activity.

It's better to seek treatment and be informed than to risk your health and others well-being.

LOCATIONS NEAR YOU

IDENTITY

Exploring, Questioning, & Embracing Who You Are

Theres no right way to exist, no timeline for self-discovery, and no rulebook that says you have to label yourself. Labels don’t define you—but sometimes, finding the right words can bring clarity and connection.

Gender Identity Labels

Transgender

Gender identity differs from sex assigned at birth

Cisgender

Gender identity matches sex assigned at birth

Nonbinary

A gender identity outside the binary of male and female

Genderqueer

A broad term for nontraditional gender identities

Honorable Mentions

Demi boy/girl, Two-Spirit, Xenogender, Agender

Even if it isn’t listed you are who you are

Understand That

  • Gender identity (who you are) vs. Gender expression (how you present), they can align or be completely different

  • Pronouns Matter: They’re not just words; they’re an affirmation of identity

  • Dysphoris is real, but so is euphoria. Finding ways to feel at home in you body and identity a journey worth taking.

Transitioning (socially, medically, legally, or not at all) is personal. There’s no right or wrong way to exist in your gender.

Sexual Orientation Labels

Homosexual

Attraction to the same “gender”

Bisexual

Attraction to 2 or more ”genders”

Pansexual

Attraction regardless of gender

Asexual (Gray,Ace)

A spectrum that can range from little to no sexual interest/atttraction

Demisexual

Sexual attraction only after forming a strong emotional bond.

Queer

A broad fluid term for non-heterosexual identities (the only label we resonate with at VBC)

Fluid

Sexual attraction that changes over time, it’s not set in stone

Omnisexual

Attraction to all genders, with an awareness of gender differences

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Labels can help but they are not required. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for how you identify.

  • Sexuality can evolve—what felt right at one point in your life might shift, and that’s okay.

  • There‘s no right way to be queer, ace, or anything else. Your experience is valid whether or not it fits someone else’s expectations.

Unlearning Shame & Embracing Discovery

From childhood, we’re fed ideas about what’s ”normal” and what’s “acceptable.” Spoiler: IT’S ALL MADE UP! The world tries to force people into boxes, but identity isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Things to Unlearn:

  • Your gender or sexuality doesn’t need to be understood by others to be valid.
  • There’s no “right way” to be queer, trans, or anything else.
  • Exploring your identity doesn’t mean you were “wrong” before—you‘re just learning more about yourself.
  • You don’t have to shrink yourself to make others comfortable.

The truth? You are not too much, too confusing, or too different. You are you, and that’s more than enough.

Ways to Explore:

  • Try different labels (or non at all) and see what resonates.
  • Read others’ experience—sometimes, their words help make sense of your own.
  • Find community spaces where you can talk openly and ask questions.
  • Allow yourself to evolve—what feels right today may shift over time, and that’s okay.
