displayed is the international hand signal to alert someone that you are experiencing domestic violence
Any use of physical force with the intention of causing fear or injury.
Ex: hitting, pushing, biting, use of weapons
The most overlooked form!
Breaking down someone's self worth and independence.
Ex: constant criticism, refusal to please, intimidation, humiliation
Any sexual behavior performed without consent.
Causing fear through intimidation; threatening physical harm to oneself, the victim, others, or pets; destruction of property; and isolating the victim from friends and family.
Controlling all money and resources, stealing from or defrauding a partner, or withholding access to funds.
It is a proven fact that individuals in the LGBTQ+ community are at a higher risk of experiencing some form of domestic violence. What is even more saddening is that they are the least likely to report it, and even when they do, it is often not taken seriously.
No matter how you identify, abuse has no place in a relationship. Just because your partner may be of the same gender, that does not make it okay to be violent. This is a significant issue in the lesbian community, especially among African Americans, and Vagina Based Collective is taking a stand against it.
No one is perfect. Problems, disagreements, and frustrations are a natural part of a relationship. When individuals with different personalities, communication styles, and triggers come together, conflict can be inevitable; that is a part of life, no matter how compatible they may seem.
It is of the utmost importance that we all take the time to learn about healthy communication, healthy de-escalation tactics, and how to recognize triggers and trauma.
